Boston Common
(MA) A memorial to Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King titled The Embrace, will be unveiled October 2022 on the Boston Common. Designed by artist Hank Willis Thomas and MASS Design Group, the monument is a 22-foot-tall bronze sculpture depicting four arms mid-embrace, a gesture inspired by an image of the couple hugging after Martin Luther King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. America’s oldest public park, the Boston Common is near the site of a 1965 rally and march led by MLK from Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood to Boston Common. The project is led by King Boston, a privately funded nonprofit committed to honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King.
