Chris Killip, 1946–2020
Documentary photographer and professor Chris Killip gained international acclaim for his black-and-white images of Britain’s working-class. An influential figure in British post-war photography, Killip imbued his images with humanism, approaching topics of class, poverty, and industrial decline with great empathy. Killip moved to the U.S. from England in 1991 to assume a post at Harvard University. He was a professor of visual and environmental studies at Harvard until 2017, and remained a resident of Cambridge, MA.
