Elsa Dorfman, 1937–2020
The portraits of photographer Elsa Dorfman, which include family, friends, artists, and celebrities, are remarkable for their warmth, intimacy, and joy. Dorfman is known for her large-scale self-portraits, taken with a 200-pound, 20 x 24 Polaroid camera, one of only a few in existence. Dorfman was a beloved figure in her native Cambridge, MA, where she lived and worked, photographing thousands of people in her studio.
