The Black Seed

(NE) The Black Seed, a national strategic plan to create impact and “thrivability” for Black theater institutions, announced that nearly 100 Black theaters across the country will receive one- or two-year grants ranging from $10,000 to $150,000. This is the first iteration in a long-term strategy for the company. Among the award grantees were JAG Productions in Vermont, and Front Porch Arts Collective in Boston. Launched in October of 2020, The Black Seed is led by the Billie Holiday Theatre in collaboration with three other Black-led performing arts companies around the country: the Craft Institute, Plowshares Theatre Company, and WACO Theater Center.
