Focus On: Summer Residencies & Workshops 2021

Artists at the Millay Colony for the Arts, Austerlitz, NY.

When will everything return to normal?” As we move into the new year, perhaps a better question to ask is, “What is still possible?” The good news is that the number of possibilities grows every day. While residencies and workshops were not exempt from having to refocus or pause amidst the COVID-19 crisis, many are reopening their doors (in-person and virtually) to artists nationwide. Residencies provide a respite from the day-to-day, many located within breathtaking spaces across New England. Some tout Thoreau-esque peace and seclusion, while others promote community and collaboration. If you’re looking to remain close to home, many organizations offer innovative workshops to spark the joy of creation. Like the artists who enjoy them, no two programs are the same.

Residencies and workshops help to imagine what is still possible—and encourages you to make it happen. Look ahead and plan!

While it is easier said than done, take time this winter to dwell on the possible. In the search for inspiration, you may even find new answers to those earlier questions. Perhaps you will decide not to return to “normal” and choose something different for yourself.
